Autumn 1941. German troops are approaching Moscow. Student cameramen Lev Alperin and Ivan Maisky refuse to evacuate and insist on being sent to the front to find themselves with cameras in the center of the grand battle for Moscow. At the same time, the viewer will see the peaceful life of Los Angeles, where the 15th Oscar ceremony of the year began with a sensation: a documentary from the USSR won Hollywood's main film award.
